Tid Bits

...been having sever tooth pain so I finally went to see Dr. Crentist, the dentist. As I suspected, I have to have a root canal. Yikes! But here is the kicker...I can not get it taken care of until the referral from my insurance goes through which, on average, takes 3-4 weeks! Wanna know something else? My insurance ends the last day of June. Wanna bet the referral ends up taking longer just so they won't have to pay for it? (Praying hard that won't happen.) "In the mean time, Brittney, do your best to cope with the pain."

...flying out to see my family (Iowa) in July! Can't wait! It has been over a year since I have seen my parents. Pretty difficult to deal with since we are used to seeing each other every 4 months or so. We have some fun activities planned too...Adventureland (Disneyland/world has NOTHING on this amusement park!), day trip to Galena, IL, wedding dress shopping with my soon-to-be sister in-law, and lots of playdates with my cousins and their kids.

...the 100+ degree temps we have been experiencing are more bearable here than in TN. The lack of humidity is awesome! Still don't like the heat though, but it's nothing a day at the beach can't fix!

...Collin's first year of graduate school is almost over! Only 3 smallish (10-15 pages each) papers left to write! Hard to believe we have been here for 9 months already. Only 4 more years to go!?!

...How does a car know it has hit 100,000 miles? Let's just see the things that need to be fixed on it right now: radiator, power steering pump, passenger side window, and the A/C switch (luckily I can tap on the dashboard in just the right place and it will turn on). Also have to get the smog test done so we can switch our tags to CA (Which I don't want to do. I like my TN ones.) and we just bought new tires. Cars...necessary evil. Luckily we only have one.

Tid Bits

This week has been a tough one.

I stepped out of my comfort zone, fumbled while being "out there", and a door closed. It was not easy. BUT...all is not lost. I learned a bit about myself through the process. Now, it is up to me to take that knowledge and do something productive with it. Some areas I see a need for growth and others just need a little pruning.

School...this week did not see much as far as quantity or quality, really. I was more focused on me and that is okay. Magnus and I have continued prepping for the standardized test he has to take in a few weeks. We've listened to the SOTW on cd, read a few books, and watched a couple videos. We did go on a field trip to The Sacramento Zoo with some friends on Tuesday. That was a lot of fun. I was able to get my mind off things. The boys completed a zoo "I Spy" booklet that can be found at www.homeschoolshare.com.

We've got some fun things planned the next upcoming weeks. Next week we are going to go camping at the ocean. I FINALLY get to see it again! It has been way too long. The following week our friends from MA are driving their RV across country and since they have no choice but to turn around in CA, we are heading to the ocean with them for a few nights of camping! Then the following week, Collin's parents are flying down for a visit! Guess where we all are going to spend Mother's Day...at the ocean!!! YIPPEE!!!!!

That about covers things. Be sure to check back next week for pics from our camping trip and the ocean!!

Tid Bits

Well, this sickness has kicked my butt! I haven't been able to do much of anything. Poor Collin has had to pick up the slack during the most inconvenient time. It's the end of the quarter for him and he has had three twenty page papers and 2 presentations due within 3 weeks. No not good timing. But, he has been a trooper!

We haven't gotten anything done in the form of school this week. I am trying not to get down about it. Life happens. But, the boys have spent their days having battles with their Playmobil guys, drawing lots of pictures, reading lots books, dressing up and pretending to be many different characters, playing outside, and taking care of their mommy.

I have had some time to think about some things I hope to do with the boys in the coming few years.
...I know the units we will cover for science next year and I have been gathering information for them.
...I purchased a few books about the orchestra and am going to plan a fun unit for that complete with a lapbook.
...I have gathered some great materials and information for a study on the 50 states. Now I just need to figure out when and how to add that in.

We have been enjoying clear, blue skies, filled with sunshine. The temperatures have been in the mid 60's. We've been able to have our windows wide open during the day and the boys have spent lots of time outside. Guess there are some good things about CA.

I got three new cds for my birthday:
...Patty Griffin, Children Running Through (waiting for it to grow on me)
...Madeleine Peyroux, Half the Perfect World (Love her!)
...Jars of Clay...Redemption Songs (Fantastic! Course, everything they do is.)

I lost my voice Wednesday and I still can't find it.
